Marriage counseling in Towson, for the fight you keep having
Most couples call after years of the same argument. The words change. The pattern underneath them does not.
The Resilient Heart is led by Dr. Eleanor Vance, a licensed couples therapist with a PhD in how partners disconnect and reconnect. She is certified in three research-based methods, and she matches the method to your relationship instead of fitting your relationship to a method. Sessions run in person at 100 Allegheny Avenue or by telehealth anywhere in Maryland.
The first call is free, 15 minutes, and commits you to nothing.

Three certified methods. One clinician.
Most therapists train in one model and apply it to every couple. Dr. Vance holds certifications in three, so the approach is chosen after she understands you, not before.
GOTTMAN METHOD, LEVEL 3
Forty years of observational research on what makes marriages last, turned into concrete skills for conflict, friendship, and repair. Used when the fighting itself is the emergency.
EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED THERAPY, ADVANCED
Attachment work developed by Dr. Sue Johnson. Across studies, 70 to 75 percent of couples move from distress to recovery. Used when the distance runs deeper than the arguments.
PACT, LEVEL 2
A neuroscience-based approach to how two nervous systems set each other off. Used when one of you floods, goes silent, or leaves the room.

The same argument, on loop
You can predict every line before either of you says it. High conflict has a known structure, and it can be interrupted.

Whether you stay is a later question. Disclosure, meaning, and repair come first, in that order.

No fighting, no closeness. Logistics quietly replaced the relationship.

Desire discrepancy is the most common sexual issue in long relationships, and one of the most workable.

ADHD, autism, or mixed neurotypes. Less a communication failure than a translation problem, with real techniques.

Discernment counseling is a short, structured process for couples who disagree on that question.

You will know which phase you are in, what you are working on, and what has to be true before the next one starts. Most couples complete the core work in 12 to 20 sessions.
Assessment
A 75-minute joint intake, one individual hour with each of you, and a feedback session with your relational map.
Interrupting the cycle
Naming the pattern and building the skills to stop it mid-flight. Gottman conflict work and PACT regulation, weekly.
Repair and reconnection
The attachment conversations underneath the fights. EFT-led, and the phase where most couples say it turned.
Consolidation
Re-assessment against your intake baseline, a written plan for the next disagreement, and check-ins at three and six months.
Dr. Eleanor Vance, PhD, LCMFT
Dr. Vance is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist, the highest license in her field in Maryland. Her doctoral research at Virginia Tech studied how couples repair attachment after rupture, and she still teaches at the University of Maryland and publishes in peer-reviewed journals.
That research habit is the point. What you get in the room is the current evidence, not what one school taught twenty years ago.
We measure it, and we will show you.
Every couple completes a validated relationship assessment at intake, at 12 weeks, and at close. You see your own curve, not an average.
